Thumbnails

Each Project generates two distinct thumbnail assets: the Thumbnail, shown in the Player before playback, and the Email thumbnail, used in your email communications. They differ in size, and the Email thumbnail has a play button overlaid on top.

Select an appropriate thumbnail image

Thumbnails are used in the player, shown before clicking play, and can also be used in an email, to improve click rates and conversion.

An appropriate thumbnail should be selected from one of the personalised shots used in the film. Normally this will show either the first or last name of the receiver, or could even be the full name if that data is used. If the film is being sent to a company, using a shot with the company name would make a good thumbnail image.

Consider the position of the personalisation in the thumbnail

The play button in the centre will cover part of the image, so avoid centrally positioned text personalisations.

Good thumbnail example: personalisation placed away from center

Example to avoid: personalisation obscured by the center play button

Custom thumbnails

If necessary, a custom thumbnail can be created directly in Studio: add a Block and select Add as thumbnail, create your thumbnail, select it, and press Set Thumbnail. See Creating a video for the full steps.

Sizing

The Email thumbnail is always 500 pixels wide, for email compatibility. In 16:9 this gives 500×281, and in 9:16 it gives 500×889.

The Player Thumbnail matches your Project's own aspect ratio (16:9 or 9:16).
